Hyphen-Labs
A collaborative art-and-technology studio known for its innovative, multidisciplinary projects.
Ece Tankal and I met while studying at IAAC in Barcelona, earning master’s degrees in architecture and interaction design. After graduating in 2014, we planted a seed that grew into Hyphen-Labs—a collective shaped by our determination to build a women-led practice at the intersection of art and technology. What began as two friends looking for contract work became a decade of creative adventures: presenting at festivals and universities, collaborating with artists we admired, and developing projects that continue to travel the world.
In 2017, alongside Ashley Baccus-Clark and Nitzan Bartov, we created NeuroSpeculative AfroFeminism, a multi-platform narrative that allowed us to imagine ourselves inside the technologies we used—centering our lived experiences and expanding our curiosities. NSAF pushed us onto the public stage, where we traveled, spoke, and shared our work with wide eyes and even wider dreams.
In 2022, I moved to San Francisco and followed a new artistic calling: performance art and physical theater. After many years of public speaking I found a unique comfort while on stage and began experimenting with alternative way to express myself—through my body, absurdity, and the realization that I can make people laugh.
In 2024, we chose to close Hyphen-Labs and continue on separate paths, while remaining close friends and future collaborators whenever the right moment arrives. I’m deeply grateful for the experiences we shared, the lessons we learned, and the rare gift of building a life and career alongside such brilliant artists.
Here is a few publications and videos where we can be seen discussing our work.
