Prismatic

A luminous-kinetic sculpture oscillating above The High Line in New York City.

PRISMATIC_NYC is a kinetic sculpture using openFrameworks to control 66 brushless motors and over 10,000 addressable LED strips. Adapting real-time data into a physical visualization, we brought the fluctuations and flow of the outside world, inside a pedestrian bridge passing over the high line at the New York Google Headquarters. Inspired by trivision billboards, we expanded the design by tapering each prism and rotating them so that we could control the point at which an apex would emerge when the triangles rotated, allowing us to visualize waves along the sculpture.
